Description
The Lake Hotel on the Isle of Wight is situated in the beautiful "olde worlde" village of Bonchurch, near Ventnor. It is a really comfortable and friendly family-run hotel, with great rates, including car ferry inclusive packages from any of the ports. The Wyatt family have run the Hotel for the last 40 years and it is currently run by Richard and Carol Wyatt, plus a bunch of eager-to-please staff. There are no pretensions here, but comfort and service come first. We believe we can offer some of the best value accommodation, food and service available on our beautiful Island!
All our 20 bedrooms include en-suite facilities with shower or bath, colour TV and tea & coffee making facilities. 10 rooms are in the main house on the first floor, eight rooms are in the new wing annexe, with four on the ground floor and four on the first floor. Two rooms are in the coachman's cottage, both with bath and village outlook. Our dining room offers good food and a really good value wine list, with new world wines featured heavily at very modest prices.
The Lake Hotel is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery on the Island. It is set in its own lovely, two acre gardens and nestles at the foot of the famous Undercliff on the sea-ward side of the village, with St. Boniface Down rising magnificently 800 feet on the northern side, which ensures a mild, almost sub-tropical climate. There is excellent walking along the coast or across the downs, and the famous Landslip walk starts in Bonchurch itself.
Originally called Orchard Leigh, the house was built around 1820 and Victorian bays were added when they became fashionable. Extensions have been built at various times up to 1968, but the charm of days gone by has been retained and the main house has held onto its country house atmosphere. We are open February to November.
