The Volunteer in Ventnor is ´The Little Pub with the BIG List of Beers´. Their superb ales are always in tip-top condition and include a great choice of guest beers as well as their regular range. It is a very good example of what pubs used to be like - a place to enjoy a good quality pint and a conversation without the modern day distractions of TVs, fruit machines and the like. Local couple Mike and Heather are the convivial hosts at The Volunteer, where you can always be sure of a friendly welcome.

They have successfully built on the reputation of the former owners and the pub continues to go from strength to strength. It is one of the few venues on the Island where the traditional Isle of Wight game, ´rings´, is still played. The Volunteer has featured in The Good Beer Guide by the Campaign for Real Ale and is a former Isle of Wight Pub of the Year winner. Entertainment is a major feature at the pub and includes live music on Wednesday evenings and Saturday night is ´Vinyl Night´ inc. a fun pop quiz, when you can bring along your own records and be named and shamed on a trip down memory lane!
